Detroit fan-congrats to you. Great insight, lots of good information. You and Ty spend considerable time putting your posts together, research, stats and cogent presentation. You and others represent the Lions in way that encourage people like me, 1000's of miles removed from the scene, to read and comment and feel "involved" in a material way. While I still breeze through M-Live comments, I rarely comment anymore. Isimply don't have the time for a lot of the nonsense that goes on there.

As for Stafford, his progression is more then reasonable under the circumstances. And yes, he can make throws that only a handful of QB's in the league can make. His maturity in the locker room and on the field has surprised me.

Favre said after the Vikings/Lions game that Stafford made a throw to CJ that was "unbelievable". His advice to Stafford prior to the game was "keep slinging it". Funny that Schwartz said shortly thereafter that Stafford has a long way to go before we start comparing him to Stafford. Yet, in the Redskins game, Schwart's advice to Stafford-"keep slinging it".

Fun stuff and a few great posts from Detroit lions fans like you and others provide fans an outlet to express themselves. We can disagree without being disagreeable.

Thanks.

Thanks Chris -- keep up the good work yourself. That's bad with Frazen. With all the losses this year, hope the Wings can still pull out a good season...

Agree with Ty 100%! Great running skills tend to hurt QBs more than help in the long run, with a few notable exceptions.

Congrats DF79! That's very well deserved. I find it interesting that Simms had Stafford downgraded because of his notion of Stafford's mobility. Phil was not exactly a monster scrambler; I always thought that for pocket passer,s mobility was more of a minimum-needed thing. Like, you have to be at least as mobile as Byron Leftwich to ride this ride . . .

Peace

jbaum -- Please read better sir. That was an interview with Phil Simms (former great NFL QB) not me. Those are his opinions, not mine.

It will take time and consistency to see if Matthew Stafford has learned from his mistakes before I would make that call. Personally, I would choose Ryan or Flacco based on where they are right now. Simms did qualify that he was doing so based on potential.

As Brain Billick stated during the Lions-Washington game "You've got to do something at some point son because potential is going to get me fired." Jury is very much out on Stafford.

I do not ever cite pro-bowls as qualification for playing ability on this blog becuase it is a popularity contest among those on hyped, winning teams or who have big name recognition, even after their play has dropped off.

Point in case: Jason Hanson set a record for most consecutive FG over 50 yards without a miss last season, and despite having the longest average attempt for FG was still among the most accurate. Ryan Longwell beat him out because he was on the Adrian Peterson led Vikings and the attention they garnered. More people watched him make his kicks, while Hanson was blacked out.

All four of the QB's mentioned are too early in their career to make any concrete statements about. They are on different teams, with different systems, at different points of development.

I take issue with your saying Sanchez is great early on while Stafford is a could be never was... they have both played 4 games!! And against a common opponent (Saints) they both had the the SAME dismal QB rating. They are both rookies 4 games in -- how could either be a "could be, never was?".

I'm sorry, but to me that is a silly statement on all accounts. Drew Brees did nothing but awful his first three years. Is he a "could be, never was?" Give them both time to see how it shakes out. Personally, I think all 4 will be at worst solid starting level QB's at the NFL; each one is a little different on what they do well, and would be good fits in different offenses.

sorry dude but to say you would take Stafford over Ryan, Flaco, and Sanchez is insane. Ryan is a pro bowl quarterback and Flacco is on his way. Sanchez is doing great early on. Stafford is a "could be, never was" type of qb with a rocket arm and not much else
